Cinnamon Stars & Candy Canes with Cinnamon Icing

Cinnamon Stars and Candy Canes with Cinnamon Icing is the newest cookie to be added to my baking.  I found it on the Betty Crocker website one day when I was looking for new things to make for Christmas.  Here is the link - http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/cinnamon-stars/86efef9b-6e20-4ca5-8c78-694f0dd56d9e
In typical fashion I forgot to take a picture of the dough before I rolled it out.  I found that I had to let it chill overnight despite the recipe saying only an hour.
Here is the dough rolled out on my counter.  I did small batched so it was easier to roll.

I made stars and candy cane.  The stars I decided were going to be covered in a kid friendly cinnamon icing and the candy canes were going to be covered in an adult icing made with Fireball whisky!

For the kids recipe I used the cinnamon hearts, water and icing sugar and brought it to a boil.
For the adult icing I just used the leftover icing from the kids cookies and added 3 shots of fireball.  There was no recipe to follow for the adult icing.  I just made it up on my own.  Next time I will make a separate batch and omit the water for boiling the cinnamon hearts down and just use more alcohol then add a couple of shots once it is cooled down.

Melting cinnamon hearts is a long slow process.

Added the icing sugar and now to stir stir stir! Make sure you use a pot you don't mind getting a film on that takes forever to get off.  It took me 2 nights of soaking this pot to get everything off of it.

I added some decorating sugar to the stars.

Thanks goes to my cousins Kim and Kevin who came up with the idea for the adult icing after a discussion on my facebook page regarding our grandpa.  They introduced me to Fireball the day of Kim's wedding.

The candy cane icing turned out to become more of a glaze despite the copius amounts of icing sugar I added to the mixture.  They were a hit with all the adults who tried them.
